Azerbaijan, Baku, April 28 /Trend/
Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), and Syrian Foreign Minister Waled al-Muallim held discussions on the situation in Syria, the OIC press service told Trend.
In a telephone conversation, Ihsanoglu voiced his concern over the situation in Syria and regret over a large number of victims.
Al-Muallim, for his part, said the Government of Syria tries to do its best to restore stability in the country.

The unrest in Syria over the past 2 months has begun in the middle of March after a group of schoolchildren writing anti-government slogans on walls in town of Deraa bordering Jordan was arrested. The people then rushed to the streets demanding for their release.
The protests of oppositionists in Syria continue despite the Government-declared wide-scale program of reforms. Particularly, the emergency law is now abolished in the country, President Asad reported on Thursday. Abolishment of the emergency law that had been in effect since 1963 was the key demand of the opposition.
