Syrian activists called Friday for mass demonstrations across the country to emphasize unity of opposition to the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
The call for "Unity of Opposition" was posted on Facebook page of the Syrian Revolution 2011, an anti-government group, dpa reported.
Activists also voiced support for the opposition Syrian National Council launched in August in Turkey.
Meanwhile, activists in Beirut told the German Press Agency dpa that "the Syrian opposition is organizing its ranks to confront this criminal regime."
They added that all mobile phone and internet links in parts of the Syrian capital Damascus and other areas remained blocked Friday.
According to the activists, al-Assad's government is blocking all communications to Syria to "prevent activists from talking to any news media or posting footage on the internet of their savage attacks on protesters."
Random arrests were being carried out Friday in various areas of Syria targeting activists and military defectors, they claimed. More than 300 people have been arrested since Monday, they said.
The mass riots have begun in the Syrian city Dera'a in mid-March. Arrest of a group of schoolchildren, who had written the anti-government slogans on the walls, was reported to cause the protests. People appeared in the streets demanding to release the adolescents. The troops entered the city to suppress the anti-government protests. They used tanks and artillery to disperse mass demonstrations.
