Libya blames pro-Gaddafi cell for deadly bombings

Libyan authorities have detained members of a cell loyal to Moamer Gaddafi who are suspected of carrying out deadly twin car bomb attacks in Tripoli at the weekend, local media reported on Monday, reported dpa.

Two people were killed and four were injured in the attacks near a military academy and the Interior Ministry offices in the centre of Tripoli on Sunday, the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr festival.

They were the first deadly attacks in Tripoli since Gaddafi's overthrow last year.

"Preliminary investigations with members of the cell have shown that the perpetrators are persons involved in killing Libyans with the Gaddafi regime," said the Higher Security Committee, Libya's top security agency.

Security experts had defused four more car bombs in other areas of Tripoli, reported the independent Libyan news agency Solidarity Press.

Meanwhile, a bomb was defused inside an office building in the eastern city of Benghazi, according to the report.
