At least five people were wounded Thursday in a bombing in Cairo, state television reported.

An unidentified person hurled a bomb at a public bus in the eastern Cairo district of Nasr City, the state-run newspaper al-Ahram reported, citing a security official, dpa reported.

The attack came two days after 16 people were killed and more than 130 injured in a car bombing targeting a police headquarters in the northern city of Mansoura.

The military-backed government blamed the Mansoura attack on the Muslim Brotherhood and labelled it a terrorist group.

Under Egyptian law, terrorism-related charges carry the death penalty.

Hundreds of people have been killed in Egypt's violence since July when the army deposed president Mohammed Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
