A barrage of rockets fired from Gaza landed in southern Israeli cities on Saturday night, as violence continued to escalate along the Gaza Strip border, Xinhua reported.
Channel 10 said a total of 25 rockets, including eight long- range rockets, landed in Ashkelon, Ashdod, Sderot, the Eshkol Regional Council area and the Be'er Tuviya area. No injuries or damage were reported.
The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted one rocket in the Ashdod area, the army said.
Saturday's rocket barrage followed an earlier anti-tank missile attack on an IDF jeep near the border with Gaza, which wounded four soldiers. The IDF responded to the attack with shelling on the Gaza Strip in which at least four Palestinians were killed and over 36 wounded.
It was announced that the Kerem Shalom crossing will be closed Sunday in wake of the escalation. Schools in the Gan Yavne area will also be closed Sunday, according to Haaretz.
The army instructed residents of communities in the vicinity to remain close to protected space ahead of additional possible rocket attacks in the coming hours, Army Radio said.
