Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Amman on Thursday, on an unannounced visit, for talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II, the official Petra news agency reported.

The aim was to discuss the US-brokered Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, which are at a "critical stage" as the sides are debating a framework agreement, the Jordanian agency said.

Netanyahu's spokesman Mark Regev was not immediately available for comment, dpa reported.

US Secretary of State John Kerry hopes to present the framework, which would touch on all the core issues of the conflict including borders, Jerusalem and security arrangements, by April 30.
