( dpa ) - A 20-day-old baby was killed and eight militants were wounded Tuesday night in a new Israeli raid on al-Garara village, east of the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, medics said.
Residents in the village, which is 2 kilometers from the borders between Gaza Strip and Israel, said that several Israeli army tanks and armored vehicles backed by helicopters rolled into the area amid intensive shooting.
They added that the Israeli army forces surrounded a house that belongs to a local Islamic Jihad (Holy War) leader in the village, while militants exchanged fire with the soldiers.
Medics at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said that the girl baby was shot dead and eight Palestinians wounded. Witnesses said the eight are militants.
The week-long incursion into the northern has left more than 125 people dead and 380 wounded, officials have said.
Israel army officials said the operations into the Gaza Strip would continue to curb homemade and Russian-made rockets attacks carried out by militants on southern Israel.
