The Speaker of the Knesset, Julius Edelstein, removed from the agenda of the Israeli parliament the draft decision on the recognition of the "Armenian genocide" in the Ottoman Empire, the Jerusalem Post reported referring to the spokesman for the speaker, RIA Novosti reported.

"Edelstein eliminated this issue in order to avoid embarrassment, since it was not clear whether the decision would support the majority," the report said.

According to the publication, Edelstein over many years, including last week, repeatedly stated that he supports the recognition of the "Armenian genocide"

Note that Armenia and the Armenian lobby say that the predecessor of Turkey - the Ottoman Empire - committed in 1915 the so-called "genocide" against Armenians living in Anatolia.
