An American soldier was killed by indirect fire attack in the volatile province of Diyala, the U.S. military said on Friday, reported Xinhua.
The military said in a statement that the incident occurred on Thursday in the province which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border with Iraq.
The indirect fire attack in the terms of U.S. military statements refers to mortar or rocket attacks.
About 4,185 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
