Many residents were left without electricity due to the strong winds and rain brought by Hurricane Matthew, resulting in many power lines being damaged. The electricity is expected to be reconnected on Wednesday, according to the CBC News.

Matthew is the most powerful hurricane to form in the Atlantic Ocean since 2007. According to the US National Hurricane Center, Matthew is a Category 1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds reaching 75 miles per hour.

Hurricane Matthew has impacted several countries in the Caribbean and has also skirted the Florida coastline.

In Haiti, Hurricane Matthew reportedly resulted in the death of some 900 people and became the country’s deadliest natural disaster since the 2010 earthquake. Thousands have been displaced, while over a million people were left in need of assistance.
