Some 84 percent of Peruvians support President Martin Vizcarra's decision to dissolve the nation's opposition-controlled Congress to clear way for his anti-corruption reforms, according to a poll published on Sunday, reports Trend referring to Xinhuanet.com.

The survey conducted by a polling firm Instituto de Estudios Peruanos (IEP) was published by the daily La Republica, showing 70 percent of respondents consider Vizcarra's decision to be backed by the Constitution, while 22 percent consider it as a "coup" by the executive branch.

The congress was dissolved on Sept. 30 and legislative elections were scheduled for January.

Another poll released on Saturday by pollster CPI showed 89.5 percent of Peruvians back the decision to dissolve Congress.

The IEP poll queried 1,216 people from Oct. 2 to 4 and has a 95 percent accuracy rate.
