Turkey will have a new mobile operator, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported March 5, referring to the Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Lutfi Elvan.

The minister said the new mobile operator is required as Turkey intends to render 4G mobile Internet services.

He also said the new mobile operator will appear after the winner of the tender for rendering 4G mobile Internet services is determined.

Turkey announced a tender for rendering 4G mobile Internet services in late February.
A mobile penetration level in Turkey is 99 percent. Currently, around 1,800 settlements are not provided with mobile and fiber-optic communication. This is explained by the location of these settlements.

Around 47 mobile operators were registered in Turkey. Three of them, namely, Avea, Turkcell and Vodafone are operating.

Turkcell has 52.4 percent of users, Vodafone - 27.9 percent, Avea - 19.7 percent.
