New airport in Turkey’s Istanbul has served 33.2 million passengers in 11M2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on Dec. 9.
According to the ministry, during the specified period, 9.6 million passengers were served on domestic flights, and 23.6 million passengers were served on international flights.
The ministry noted that during this period, 251,647 flights were carried out through the new Istanbul airport, including 72,813 - on domestic lines and 178,834 - on international lines.
“The volume of cargo transported through the new Istanbul airport in 11M2021 amounted to 1.3 million tons, of which 130,349 tons accounted for domestic traffic, and 1.2 million tons - for international transport," the ministry said.
The opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul on October 29, 2018, in which President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan took part.
Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
