BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Turkey's Aliaga port handled over 17.5 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.
According to the ministry, ships flying the Turkish flag transported 732,983 tons of freight through the port of Aliaga, whilst ships flying the flags of other countries – 16.8 million tons.
From January through March 2022, the port handled 84,272 tons of transit cargo.
Turkey's ports transshipped 24.18 million tons of cargo in March 2022.
In the reporting month, cargo transportation by Turkey-flagged ships through local ports amounted to 2.28 million tons, while cargo traffic by ships flying the flags of other countries reached 31.89 million tons.
Meanwhile, Turkish ports transshipped 6.67 million tons of transit cargo.
According to the ministry, Turkish ports handled 98.6 million tons of cargo from January through March this year.
In the reporting period, cargo transportation by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to 6.9 million tons, while freight traffic by ships flying the flags of other countries reached 91.68 million tons.
At the same time, Turkish ports delivered 20.57 million tons of transit cargo.
Totally, Turkey transported 386.39 million tons of cargo in 2021 via its ports.
During the reporting period, freight transportation by ships under the flag of Turkey via domestic ports amounted to 29.9 million tons, whereas the cargo traffic by other countries' vessels reached 356.39 million tons.
Furthermore, Turkish ports transshipped 78 million tons of transit cargo in 2021.
