Azerbaijan intends to invest in Iran’s renewable energy sector

Azerbaijan intends to invest in Iran's renewable energy sector, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Akim Badalov said Sept. 17.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Iran's Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

Badalov said Azerbaijan intends to get acquainted with the operation of Iran's geothermal power plants and to cooperate with the country in this sector.

He said Azerbaijan is serious about its participation in the Iranian projects on alternative and renewable energy sources.

Falahatian, in turn, said Iran plans to boost the renewable energy sector's generation capacity up to 1,000 megawatts.

Iran positive about Azerbaijan's intention to invest in its renewable energy sector, he said.

He said Azerbaijan's representatives can get all the necessary information by visiting and reviewing the work of geothermal and wind power plants in Iran.

Aside from that the deputy minister said Iran also expects proposals from Azerbaijan on restoration of Lake Urmia, which is on the brink of drying out completely.

Falahatian noted that the current state of the Caspian Sea and Lake Urmia is important for both countries.

It should be noted that an Azerbaijani delegation is on an official visit in Iran.
