Newspaper: Argentina sees Azerbaijan as potential strategic partner

Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner instructed Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno to visit Azerbaijan with the business mission in June, Argentine newspaper "Diario Buenos Aires" reports with reference to the secretariat.

Moreno plans to determine the mission, which will include representatives from various companies specializing in agriculture and processing of agricultural products, metallurgical industry, network of hypermarkets, as well as entrepreneurial organizations in the coming weeks.

According to the newspaper, Argentine government seeks alternative markets to purchase oil, as well as increase export of domestic goods, especially agricultural products and food products. For this purpose, the Trade Secretary intends to hold talks with the Azerbaijani government.

"Azerbaijani economy, which is rich in energy resources, and experiencing period of dynamic development, relies mainly on oil exports, as well as machine-building, oil refining and chemical industries. After launching the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline Azerbaijan took an important place in the energy sector and today, provides energy market with one million barrels of oil every day," the newspaper reports.

Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Argentina in 2010. In recent years, the two countries actively develop relations, and mutual visits are paid at different levels.

Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman visited Azerbaijan in early March, during which he expressed his country's interest in deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan and its intention to open an embassy in Baku.
