Rufiz Hafizoglu-Trend:

Turkey is expected to ban co-education of boys and girls, the deputy chairman of the Turkish parliament Sadik Yakut said, CNN Turk TV Channel reported on Nov.21.

According to Yakut, co-education of boys and girls has been a big mistake that Turkey intends to correct.

He stressed that the country needs to create a separate gymnasiums for boys and girls.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting of the ruling coalition that the student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated from each other.

The Turkish population disapproves of boys and girls living in co-ed student dormitories in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said earlier.

According to Bozdag, the separation of student dormitories for boys and girls shouldn't be perceived as an intervention in personal life.

"Currently, the government is not engaged in this issue, but in case of necessity, the student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated," Bozdag said.

According to Bozdag, this step doesn't contradict the country's constitution.

Turkish human rights activists and the Anatolian women's movement filed a lawsuit against the country's Prime Minister in connection with his statement that student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated from each other.
