The perspectives for the development of economic cooperation were discussed during the meeting of Tajikistan's Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sharif Rahimzoda with Afghanistan's minister of commerce and industry Mohammad Shokir Korgar in Dushanbe, Avesta.Tj reported on May 20 referring to the Tajik ministry.

At the meeting the sides discussed the cooperation in such spheres as economy and trade, investments. The issues of expanding the border trade and developing the activity of free economic zones were also in the focus of talks.

The sides expressed interest to develop and implement trilateral transit agreement between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan in the nearest future.

The trade turnover between Tajikistan and Afghanistan amounted to over $22.2 million in the first quarter of this year, according to the Statistical Agency under President of Tajikistan.

This figure is 59.6 percent less than during the same period of last year.
