Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will meet with Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak during his visit to Moscow. Salehi arrived in Russia on Monday to attend a meeting of the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission, RIA Novosti reported.
"This time I will have a meeting with Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, as he is the Russian co-chairman, and I am the Iranian co-chairman," minister told RIA Novosti in Tehran prior to heading to Moscow.
He said his talks with Novak will take place on Tuesday. Alongside, Salehi stated that a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was not scheduled within this visit. Lavrov left for a working visit to Algeria on Monday afternoon.
"I had no plans to meet with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. My trip is connected with participation in a joint commission of Iran and Russia on trade cooperation. Political debate is a separate issue that we constantly discuss within the contacts between the two ministries, as well as during meetings in the framework of international organizations", Salehi said.
The minister added that his visit to Russia will take place despite the minor setback. "The experts are in Moscow to discuss the issues and prepare a memorandum to be signed on Tuesday," the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
