Yemeni opposition says Saleh has agreed to power transfer plan

Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh has agreed Monday to sign a plan that would pave the way for him to transfer power to his deputy and end the country's ongoing political crisis, Arab media reported, citing opposition sources.

The plan was drafted by the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Saleh has agreed to sign the plan in the past, only to back out, often at the last moment, dpa reported.

Mohammed Basindwa, head of the opposition National Council, said an agreement with Saleh has been reached and that it was expected to be signed on Tuesday, broadcaster Al Jazeera reported.

Saleh has three times backed up from signing the GCC plan which stipulates that the president hand over his powers to his deputy, Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
