Six people were killed in Iraq on Saturday in suicide and bombing attacks, police officials said, dpa reported.

In the city of Baquba, a suicide bomber targeted a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims on their way to Baghdad to visit Shiite shrines.

The blast, which took place in the city that is 57 kilometres north-east of Baghdad, killed two passengers and wounded seven.

Three Iraqis were killed in separate attacks in Baquba, security sources said.

In the northern city of Mosul, gunmen killed one person, while a car bombing wounded 20 people, most of them soldiers.

Hundreds have been killed in recent months in Iraq in a series of retaliatory Sunni-Shiite attacks, raising fears of a sectarian conflict in the country.

Iraq has been gripped by political tensions since mass protests started in December in areas populated by the Sunni minority.

The protesters are seeking the repeal of laws they say the Shiite-dominated government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has used against them.
