A Jordanian Islamist political party Tuesday said an Israeli military decision that could mean the expulsion of tens of thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank posed a "direct threat" to the Hashemite Kingdom,DPA reported.

"A plan by the Zionist occupation authorities to expel thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank represents a direct threat to Jordan," Hassan Thuneibat, of the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's largest opposition group.

According to the order, which goes into effect on Tuesday, any Palestinian who does not hold an Israeli residence permit in the West Bank as "infiltrator" and should be deported, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

The ordinance was mainly directed against Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the radical Hamas group.

Israeli and Arab media claimed the order could lead to the expulsion of more than 70,000 Palestinians from the West Bank.

"The Palestinians are being evicted from their land while Israel is attracting thousands of Jews from across the world to historical Palestine," Thuneibat said.

He urged the Jordanian government to "face this decision firmly because it comes in the course of continued building of settlements and judaizing of Jerusalem".

The Jordanian government has issued a statement condemning any Israeli move to expel Palestinians from the West Bank and said it upheld the right of Palestinians "to live anywhere on their national soil".
