Turkey's Foreign Ministry has dismissed recent media allegations that there is an al-Qaeda base in Turkey, Anadolu Agency reported.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgic said "it is an unrealistic claim," in response to reports published by some of the country's news sources.
Bilgic added that Turkey has been subjected to al-Qaeda attacks in the past and is still under threat.
"As a result of the Syria crisis, some groups which are inspired by al-Qaeda's ideology, have proven their presence in the region and are a threat to Turkey's security."
