A split has taken place within the Armenian community of Turkey as the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople Mesrob Mutafyan fell into coma, and the patriarchy was given to Aram Ateshyan, the newspaper Milliyet said Oct. 21.

Reportedly, most of the Armenians say that such a transfer of patriarchy is incorrect.

They also said they hope the Patriarch Mutafyan will be able to miraculously recover.

It was also reported that the Turkish Armenians, who split into two camps, want to appeal to the court to settle their problem.

The Patriarch Mutafyan has been in a coma since February 2013.
