Tajik president visits Baku to attend opening ceremony of European Games (UPDATE)

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in Baku to participate in the opening ceremony of the first European Games.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and representatives of the Operating Committee of the Baku 2015 European Games welcomed President Rahmon at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Erkinkhon Rahmatullozoda, Assistant of the President of Tajikistan on Foreign Relations, Rustam Emomali, chairman of the Tajikistan Football Federation, Ahtam Abdullozoda, Chairman of the Committee of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism, Bahrullo Radhzabaliev, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee and other officials accompany the president during his trip, the presidential website reported June 12.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
