Provincial Candidates have Little Chance for Chairmanship Position to Azerbaijani Opposition Party

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 February / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The candidates to the chairmanship position in the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP) from Baku have most chances, Ayaz Rustamov, former ANIP chairman, stated to Trend.

Ayaz Rustamov, the party chairman, resigned due to the health problem in the end of 2007. The resignation statement will be considered at the meeting of the Political Council of Party The new chairman will be elected during the meeting of the party in 2008. The meeting will be summoned by ANIP Central Council..

Fagan Maharramov, the chairman of the Geranboy region department of the party, and Aladdin Askarov, chairman of Narimanov District department, nominated their candidature for the chairman post of the party.

Rustamov considers worthy of the both candidates, however Askarov has more chances as he lives in the capital.

Fuad Mukhtarov, ANIP General Secretary, stated to trend that the number of candidates for the chairmanship position more than two. However, others do not want to announce their names. Mukhtarov considers that the next chairman of the party should live in Baku.

Mukhtarov denied speaking about nomination of his candidature to the chairmanship position.

ANIP was the first party received registration in Azerbaijan in 1992. Etibar Mammadov had been the founder and chairman of the party by 2004. Presently, Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Alliance.
