Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 April / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (CDPA) has no financial sources to participate in the presidential elections with its own candidate.

"Presidential elections is extended campaign, but we have limited financial sources,' Araz Alizade, CDPA Co-chairman stated Trend .

The members of the party want that Ayaz Mutallibov, leader of CDPA, to be the candidate for the presidential elections. "However, Mutallibov considers that if he cannot return back to Azerbaijan, there is no point of participation in the elections. He would state about his participation in the elections in May," Alizade stated.

Probably, Mutallibov will not nominate his candidature for the presidential post. "First off all, my health does not permit me to participate in the elections. Secondly, our party has no financial sources to visit regions and meet with the population on the threshold of the elections in order to hold a successful campaign,' he added.

CDPA Co-chairman considers that if Mutallibov will nominate his candidature then there will not be much need for more funds as everybody knows him in the country.

Alizade stated that CDPA Central Committee will nominate the candidature for presidential post.

According to the experts, there is a need for AZN 500,000 for a candidate to hold successful pre-election campaign.

CDPA is left wing opposition party. Alizade and Mutallibov are co-chairmen of the party.

Mutallibov was elected as the first President of Azerbaijani Republic from October 1991 till May 1992. Mutallibov has been in exile in Moscow since 1992. Mutallibov was accused with coup d'etat on the ground of accusations by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.
