Georgia, Tbilisi, 23 September/ Trend , corr N. Kirtskhalia/ The representatives of Georgia's Foreign Ministry confirmed the expansion of contingent of observers of European Union in Georgia up to 340 people.
It was confirmed in the 63rd session of UN General Assembly in New York. The Georgian delegation is led by President Mikheil Saakashvili in the session, Rustavi-2 TV channel reported.
EU decided to expand the mission after Russia blocked expansion of OSCE mission in conflict zones from 20 to 100 people.
Alexander Stubb, OSCE chairman in office and Foreign Minister of Finland said to Georgian journalists that EU will be act actively in the current situation.
EU observers are expected to replace Russian troops in "security zones" from 1 October.
