Kazakhstan's presidency in OSCE to be historical: U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan's chairmanship in OSCE in 2010 will be a historic event, said U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Richard Hougland in an interview with the State Agency of Kazakhstan Kazinform.

"First, it will be the first time that one of the CIS countries will head the organization, and secondly, the Helsinki agreement will mark the 35th anniversary, which has led to the creation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, "said Hougland

Kazakhstan is considering appropriate ways of celebrating this historic anniversary, perhaps, a review conference, which would again be able to confirm the three basic principles of the OSCE - protection of human rights, cooperation on economy and security

"We welcome such initiatives, which would be reviewed, updated and re-approved the above-mentioned principles. We look forward to consultations with Kazakhstan in the spirit of equal partnership in the period prior to the presidency, and during this historic event," said Hougland
