A deputy of Azerbaijani parliament asked to clarify the issue on suspension of activity of some mosques in Baku.
"We have to make an objective explanation of closing of mosques in order to prevent excitement among believers," Deputy, Chairman of the opposition Umid party Aigbal Agazade said.
The Ilahiyyat (Theology) mosque will resume its activity after presenting necessary documents, the Azerbaijan State Committee on Religious Organizations said.
"Nothing threatens to the Ilahiyyat mosque located near the Baku State University. The mosque will resume activity after holding a registration," head of the State Committee Gunduz Ismayilov told a media centre on the topic "Do the recent changes to the Law on Religion restrict the freedom of conscience?"
The activity of the Ilahiyyat mosque has been suspended temporarily.
"A mosque on the Oil Rocks field has not been registered. The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) said that certain works have been implementing on the area in connection with the 60th anniversary of the Oil Rocks. The mosque and other facilities were demolished on the area. SOCAR said the mosque would be restored," Ismayilov said.
A mosque was built in the Yasamal District of Baku illegally. "The Committee has repeatedly warned owners of the mosque that it was built illegally," he added.
The Mosque of our Prophet Muhammad in the Yasamal District was pulled down in late of April.
There are 988 mosques in Azerbaijan.
"The number of believers has been increasing in Azerbaijan. New mosques are built. There is no need for excitement," Vice Speaker Bahar Muradova said.
