Czech senior official will visit Azerbaijan: ambassador

Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jan Kohout will discuss prospects of development of the Czech-Azerbaijani bilateral relations in Baku. Kohout's visit is scheduled for spring of 2010, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade told Trend News over telephone.

Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jan Kohout will discuss prospects of development of the Czech-Azerbaijani bilateral relations in Baku. Kohout's visit is scheduled for spring of 2010, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade told Trend over telephone.

The talks will mainly focus on development of cooperation between the two countries, both at bilateral and at international levels.

According to the ambassador, the status and composition of the Czech-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is also expected to be defined soon. In 2009, the countries signed an intergovernmental agreement on economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, covering such fields as engineering, transport, energy, oil and gas and chemical industry, metallurgy, agriculture, standardization, construction and others.

The sides are expected to establish a special commission comprising of representatives of the two states to implement this cooperation.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, in January-October 2009, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic amounted to $22.2 million.
