Over 20,000 people have expressed their desire to become citizens of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's State Secretary and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said at the regular meeting of the Citizenship Commission under the Kazakh President today.

"We consider the treatment of over 20,000 people trying to get our citizenship. These figures are a continuation of the trend of recent years, during which we have seen an influx of new citizens, as the Kazakhs and other nationalities," Saudabayev said.

He said more than 600,000 people received the Kazakh citizenship in the years of Kazakhstan's independence.

"This is convincing evidence of high international recognition of Kazakhstan's achievements," Saudabayev said.
