Azerbaijani CEC Head: Structure plans to increase number of webcams for greater transparency in elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 14 /Trend S.Agayeva/

The Central Election Commission (CEC) can increase the number of web cameras installed in polling stations for the transparency of the electoral process.

"The CEC is ready to consider increasing the number of webcams installed in polling stations for greater transparency in the voting, told Trend on Wednesday CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov.

Today, the process of installing a web-camera covers 10 percent of all polling stations across the country and this is consistent with international practice, but we, of course, for greater transparency would increase their number, said Panahov.

The head of the Central Election Commission also noted that in connection with this there were some financial problems, because the question was not agreed upon by the Ministry of Finance.

"The finance ministry believes that the international practice of providing 10 percent of polling stations across the country webcams quite correct figure and does not see the need to allocate additional funds for the purchase of new webcams," said the CEC head.

However, the CEC plans to continue working on this issue and increase the number of webcams, Panahov said.

We are ready to hold democratic and transparent elections, and we expect the international observers for the parliamentary elections, said the CEC head.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan scheduled for early November.

To monitor the electoral process to international observers enough to appeal to the CEC and they immediately will be registered, Panahov said.
