EU discusses cooperation with Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev met with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

The sides discussed bilateral cooperation and cooperation in the field of security, in particular, the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational crime.

The minister noted the high efficiency of the EU BOMCA and CADAP programs to ensure border security and fight against drugs in the region. He expressed the wish to introduce similar programs to improve border and customs control.

Morel showed interest in the situation of economic recovery in the south of Kyrgyzstan, combat corruption, the development of democratic processes, and respect for human rights.

The sides expressed interest in intensifying cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU in overcoming new challenges to security and maintaining social stability.
