Iranian Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has said Saturday afternoon in Ganja that Azerbaijan, as an Islamic country, can play a role in important regional issues.

Ali Larijani told IRNA that the two parliaments can promote their cooperation and take similar stances in international circles and important regional events.

He said that in the meeting with Azerbaijani President the ways of increasing economic relations between the two countries were discussed.

Larijani also underlined the expansion of economic ties and said that the two nations have had good relations in the past and this visit can deepen the ties level and promote cooperation of the two governments.

Concerning his trip to Ganja city, Larijani said that in spite of all difficulties made during the Soviet Union era people of the city kept their faith in Islam.

Larijani who is in Azerbaijan upon an official invitation of his Azeri counterpart Ogtay Asadov, on Saturday travelled to Ganja and visited Mosque of Shah Abbas (a shah of Safavid Dynasty) and the grave of famous poet Nizami Ganjavi.

On the occasion of 870th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi's birthday, an exhibition of his works as well as a number of artistic works has been displayed there.
