Glorification of fascist general Garegin Nzhdeh, Drastamat Kanayan, known as "Dro", as well as terrorist of Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA) Monte Melkonian as national heroes reveals the true nature of the Armenian regime, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, said June 11.
Hajiyev made the remarks in connection with statements of the Armenian parliament's vice-speaker and the country's foreign ministry official that Garegin Nzhdeh is a national hero of Armenia.
"Garegin Nzhdeh and Drastamat Kanayan, who committed the massacres of civilians in Azerbaijan's Zangazur district in 1918-1920, continued them with extreme cruelty as part of the German-fascist army against Jews and other nations in USSR territories occupied during the World War II," Hajiyev said.
"The racist Armenian nationalist ideology developed by Garegin Nzhdeh on the basis of the fascist ideologies of anti-Semitism, racial discrimination, "Aryan race" is currently the ideological tendency of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia and the Armenian government," he said.
The terrifying fact is that this ideology, known as Nzhdehizm, is included in the curriculum of Armenian secondary and higher schools, and the younger generation is being brought up in these spirits, Hajiyev added.
Armenia's exaltation of fascism, including erecting a big monument to Garegin Nzhdeh in downtown Yerevan with the participation of the country's leadership May 28, 2016 is a manifestation of extreme disrespect for the millions of people killed in the fight with fascism during the World War II, as well as their families and veterans, according to him.
Based on the UN General Assembly's A/RES/70/139 resolution "Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance" dated December 17, 2015, and other documents, the international community should give proper assessment to these acts of Armenia, Hajiyev added.
