The 5th international exhibition transport, transit and logistics opened at the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Exhibitions Palace in Baku on 17 May. Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov and the chairman o the Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Suleyman Tatliyev, participated in the opening ceremony.
In his opening remarks the transport Minister stressed that at present major attention in Azerbaijan is paid to transit deliveries in Azerbaijan. This type of transportation has low direct price, but brings more profits.
Mammadov informed that last year the volume of transit deliveries via the territory of Azerbaijan made up 43 million tons, while in the first quarter of 2006 is was 14 million tons.
So far, the amount of investments in the Azerbaijani transport sector made up over $700m. Further it is planned to attract $1.5bn more.
41 companies from 6 world countries will join the show. The venue of the exhibition increased 40% as compared to the previous one. 45% of all participants in the exhibition are local companies. Along with commercial companies the state bodies, including the Transport Ministry, the Azerbaijan State Railway Department and the State Caspian Sea Shipping Company, the Russian Railway Department and the Russian Register on shipment in Azerbaijan.
The exhibition will display the different sections, including the automobile, air transportation, water transport, railway, equipment and technical supply, intermodal deliveries, logistics, transportation of oil products.
Transcaspian 2006 is held with support from the Azerbaijan Transport Ministry, the TRACECA permanent secretariat, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Azerbaijan, the Fund for Promotion of Investments and Consultations.
