‘Our Azerbaijan’ Bloc Offer to Restore Activities of National Resistance Movement
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Vugar Bayturan, the Chairman of the 'Our Azerbaijan' bloc, stated on 2 July that the bloc, uniting several opposition parties had offered to restore the activities of the Karabakh National Resistance Movement.
The meeting of the chairmen's Council was held on 2 July with discussion of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and the recent visit of a group of Azerbaijani intellectuals to Karabakh and Armenia.
The bloc discussed the visit of a group of intellectuals to Azerbaijani occupied territories and assessed their step as opposing to Azerbaijani national interests. The chairmen's Council made the decision to appeal to the political parties for the restoration of National Resistance Movement's activities, which was founded in 1999.
Some 20 political parties were represented in the National Resistance Movement. 'Our Azerbaijan' bloc unites eight opposition parties. Since 1992, 20% of Azerbaijani territories, particularly Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions have been under Armenian Armed Forces occupation.
In 1994 the agreement of a cease fire was achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia and peace negotiations are being held.
