Brad Pitt to donate $5m to build homes victims of Hurricane Katrina

(showbizspy.com) - Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is to donate up to $5m of his own money to help rebuild homes for the families displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

According to reports, Pitt's 'Make It Right' project aims to help regenerate a hard-hit New Orleans neighborhood which was almost totally destroyed in the 2005 storm.

The 'Troy' star, 43, said: "A hundred and fifty homes is our goal but there is no reason why we can't do 1,000 homes, why we can't do 10,000 homes, why we can't do 100,000 homes."

Pitt, who with actress Angelina Jolie owns a home in the city's historic French Quarter, said the new homes would incorporate energy efficient appliances and "green" materials.

Each home would be built for around $150,000, reports London's Metro newspaper.

Pitt has pledged up to match up to $5 million in donations for the Make It Right project.
