Criminal Case Filed into Death of Builder in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 April / corr. Trend K. Zarbaliyeva/ A criminal case has been filed into an accident that took place during the construction of a multi-storied residential building on 16 April in Yasamal district of Baku.

On 16 April, Javad Khankishiyev, 22-year old resident of Yardimli region of Azerbaijan fell to his death from a 14-strorey building which was under construction.

The Prosecutor's Office of Yasamal district said to Trend that the construction is carried out by open joint stock company Global Azeri. A case has been filed according to 162.2 item of the Azerbaijani Penal Code for violating labour protection rules. The Prosecutor's Office said that the criminal liability by employees of the company who are responsible for observing security rules will be determined depending on the result of the investigation.

According to the Labour Inspection department under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, seven death cases have been registered in the construction sector in January and March. In 2007, 71 people died during construction work.
