Azerbaijani embassy in Turkey approves action plan on occasion of 20 January tragedy

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 17/ Trend , S. Kazimli/ Azerbaijan's embassy in Turkey has approved action plan to commemorate the 20 January tragedy, the embassy said to Trend . 

The embassy will issue press releases about the tragedy for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, embassies and other diplomatic missions.

Azerbaijani students who study in Turkey will hold events on the 20 January tragedy in Konya, Izmir, Istanbul and Samson at embassy's request.

The embassy in Ankara will also stage an event to commemorate the tragedy attended Azerbaijanis.

The film about the 20 January tragedy will be displayed at news program by the Turkey Radio Television Company on Jan. 20.

The Soviet Army commenced military operations against Azerbaijan in the early morning on Jan. 20 in 1990 without announcing emergency situation. The tragedy claimed lives of 131 people, including 117 Azerbaijanis, six Russians, three Jews and three Tatars. Some 744 people got severe injury, four were missing and 400 people were arrested. Twenty one more people were killed after announcing emergency situation on Jan. 20. A total of 26 people were killed in Neftchala and Lankaran regions, where emergency situation was not issued.
