The 1:1000000 map-model of Azerbaijani natural radioactivity was first worked out in the Geology Institute of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. Three categories of radioactivity were outlined while working out of the map-model: to 6 mkR/h, 6-7 mkR/h and more than 7 mkR/h, the Geology Institute of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences said.
Upon the map, radioactive background of Azerbaijani territory is normal and poses no hazard to human life.
However, there are regions polluted by induced radionuclide of natural origin in the Apsheron Peninsula. It is necessary to conduct monitoring observations for the regions.
The map is the result of scientific research on natural radioactivity distribution for the last 25 years in the Azerbaijani territory. All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Geology appreciated the map.
