More than 14 percent of the residents of Baku have no idea of "swine flu". ELS Independent Research Center of Azerbaijan held an opinion poll to determine the public awareness about "swine flu".
Opinion poll held among 500 respondents through telephone showed that only 17.6 percent of Baku residents have information about the "swine flu," ELS Director Irada Yagubova told Trend .
Meanwhile, 68.2 percent of respondents said they are partially informed about this disease, Yagubova said. "Some 14.1 percent of respondents lacked information about the virus. It is interesting, the greater part of respondents unaware of "swine flu" were women. Pensioners were the most uninformed people about the disease, Yagubova added.
Some 15.5 percent of the respondents said that they are ready to protect themselves from the "swine flu" and 44 percent of the people said that they are partially ready to resist the threat of infection. "Taking into consideration the people who has difficulties to answer (26.2 percent) , we can say that every fourth respondent (40.5 per cent) is unable to protect himself/herself from the threat of infection," Yagubova stressed.
The center also held another poll by telephone: "As many as 82.1 per cent of 403 respondents said that they know only one telephone number to appeal for urgent services during the emergency situations, and 17.9 percent said that they don't know any number to call when necessary."
