The current President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai gained 54.1 percent of votes after calculating 91.6 percent of the ballots.

The current President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai gained 54.1 percent of votes after calculating 91.6 percent of the ballots, BBC TV channel reported.

According to the terms, the candidate, who wins, must gain at least 50 percent of the votes in order to avoid participation in the second round.

In Afghanistan's presidential elections on August 20, Karzai's main rivals were former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and former Finance Minister Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.
