The European and Asian Media Forum will strengthen creative cooperation between media in the European space, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said at the forum.
"The forum will serve to strengthen creative cooperation," he said, calling on journalists to cover more responsibly issues on life in CIS countries.
"Ensuring qualified and objective coverage of the CIS is in our common interest," he said.
Lebedev added that globalization does not only ensure the availability and transparency of information, but also increases the demands for media to remain objective and reliable.
The forum organized by the RIA Novosti is being held in Moscow and brings together leaders of well-known CIS and Baltic media, politicians and public figures. About 150 leaders from the most authoritative print and electronic media are participating at the forum.
The Trend Agency is represented by General Director Ilgar Huseynov.
The forum's program provides an opportunity for CIS journalists to communicate with their Russian counterparts, Russian authorities, well-known politicians and public figures.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov greeted participants.
