Azerbaijan, Baku, May 5 / Trend M. Aliyev /
The SES newspaper organized a round-table today marking the eighty-seventh birthday of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Aliyev's second rise to power was a continuation of his mission to serve the Azerbaijani people, which he began in the Soviet period, Presidential Administration Foreign Relations Department head Novruz Mammadov said during the event.
"I think Heydar Aliyev was the brightest star of the human galaxy. Without Heydar Aliyev coming to power, the country would not have been stabilized," he said.
Aliyev laid the foundation for Azerbaijan's independence for the second time in the country's history, MP Eldar Ibrahimov said.
"Aliyev achieved the convening of the Nakhchivan Supreme Council in 1990 where Azerbaijan's tricolor flag was raised," Ibragimov said.
Aliyev came to power for the second time not to govern, but rather to support the Azerbaijani liberation movement, former MP Kerim Kerimli said.
"The history of the struggle of our national leader for the freedom of his people must be studied widely," he said.
