On Saturday Azerbaijan launched a two-day training of lawyers on "The right to liberty and the prohibition of torture".
Education, organized jointly with the U.S Bar Association (ABA CEELI), is carried out within the Initiative for Human Rights Education, the Azerbaijani Confederation of Lawyers told Trend.
Judge of the Constitutional Court Jeyhun Garajayev and Secretary General of the Azerbaijani Confederation of Lawyers, member of the Board Nadir Adilov spoke at a ceremony held in connection with the beginning of training.
The main subject of discussion is legal basis for the courts to arrest as a preventive measure, the compliance with the law and expediency, gaps in existing legislation, the requirements of national legislation to ban torture as well as consideration of the international instruments to which Azerbaijan is committed and a review of international jurisprudence.
Training is conducted by lawyer-expert Ilgar Jafarov.
Education will end July 18. After successful training, lawyers will be awarded with certificates.
