The cooperation between the Azerbaijani Ombudsman's office and UNICEF was discussed, the Ombudsman's office said.

Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova and UNICEF representative in Azerbaijan, Mark Hereward exchanged views on cooperation at the meeting, the report said.

Suleymanova told about the work undertaken and planned in the area of child protection in Azerbaijan.

The Ombudsman stressed the importance to expand the activity of 26 children's resource centers, created with UNICEF support on the balance of the Ministry of Education, participation of representatives from regional offices of the Ombudsman in these centers.

Hereward spoke about the willingness to assist in the development of skills and knowledge, the activity of regional offices of the Ombudsman in the field of child rights, as well as in monitoring to use the UN Convention on the "Rights of People with Disabilities". He expressed readiness to render assistance in the field of children's resource centers. He familiarized with their activities.

The Ombudsman responded to the guests' questions about the situation of early marriage, reproductive health activities.

The Ombudsman proposed to support the publication of legal literature prepared by the office, including re-publication of a specialized report on children's rights in a book form.

The issue of strengthening national independent mechanism to protect children was also raised at the meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of exchange.
