Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers has made a decision to provide digital tachographs to the cars in the country from Jan. 1, 2011. Digital tachographs must be provided to buses that have passed registration after June 16, 2010, designed for international transportation for commercial purposes and having more than nine seats (including driver's seat), as well as to cars, of which mass exceeds 3.5 tons, the Cabinet reported.
Cabinet also approved the regulations of activities of the service centers for installation of tachographs, and their inspection, repair, testing, calibration and technical services, regulations for the digital tachograph card system, regulations on the operation and the rest of drivers of vehicles carrying international road transportation.
Azerbaijan joined the European Agreement concerning the work of crews of vehicles engaged in international road transport (AETR).
Tachograph is a device that records a vehicle's speed over time. Usually fitted to lorries behind the speedometer, a tachograph records the lorry's speed and whether it is moving or stationary.
