Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium held an event commemorating the January tragedy in Brussels on Thursday. The ceremony began with one minute's silence in memory of the Azerbaijani citizens, who were innocent victims and gave their lives for their country's independence.

Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium held an event commemorating the January tragedy in Brussels on Thursday. The ceremony began with one minute's silence in memory of the Azerbaijani citizens, who were innocent victims and gave their lives for their country's independence.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Belgium Emin Eyubov made an opening address, speaking about the place the January events in the country's history, about the honorable mission of the heroes of those days, lifting their heads against the enslavement, for the freedom of the people. He recalled that the political and legal assessment of these events was given during the presidency of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who was in Moscow in the difficult tragic January days and made an accusatory statement against the then government.

Then a documentary "Ways leading to Freedom" dedicated to the January tragedy of 1990 was demonstrated.

The event was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, diplomats, students and media representatives.
